Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to australijska grupa rockowa założona w 1983 roku przez wokalistę Nicka Cave'a wraz z multiinstrumentalistą Mickiem Harveyem i gitarzystą Blixą Bargeldem po rozpadzie The Birthday Party. Nazwę grupy zaczerpnięto z kryminału The Bad Seed Williama Marcha.
Album Tender Prey ukazał się 19 września 1988 roku nakładem wytwórni Mute Records jako piąty studyjny album zespołu. Producent Flood nagrywał go przez kilka miesięcy w Londynie i Zachodnim Berlinie. Wydaniu albumu towarzyszył singiel The Mercy Seat, który stał się jednym z najbardziej znanych utworów grupy. To dwupłytowe wydanie w digipaku zawiera łącznie 28 nagrań — oprócz oryginalnego albumu oferuje bonusowe utwory (w tym Girl at the Bottom of My Glass oraz akustyczne wersje wybranych kompozycji), teledyski do The Mercy Seat i Deanna oraz materiał dokumentalny o powstawaniu albumu.
