Fatboy Slim, właściwie Norman Cook, to brytyjski DJ i producent, uważany za twórcę i głównego promotora gatunku big beat, który przyniósł mu mainstreamową popularność w latach 90. W swojej karierze zdobył dziesięć nagród MTV Video Music Awards i dwie nagrody Brit Awards.

Album Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars ukazał się 6 listopada 2000 roku nakładem wytwórni Skint Records jako trzeci album studyjny artysty. Tytuł albumu, wspomniany w utworze Weapon of Choice, nawiązuje do słynnego cytatu Oscara Wilde'a „We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” Na albumie gościnnie wystąpili Macy Gray, Bootsy Collins, Ashley Slater, Roland Clark i Roger Sanchez. Wśród jedenastu utworów znalazły się m.in. Star 69, Sunset (Bird of Prey) i Ya Mama.
