Heaven & Hell powstały w 2006 roku, gdy Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler i Vinny Appice z Black Sabbath połączyli siły z wokalistą Ronniem Jamesem Dio. Grupa kontynuowała erę Sabbathu z Dio, którego charakterystyczny głos i mroczne teksty definiowały gatunek heavy metalu.
