Insomnium to fińska grupa melodic death metalowa założona w 1997 roku w mieście Joensuu, której muzyka łączy skandynawski melodyjny death metal z typowo fińskimi elementami.
Album Across the Dark ukazał się we wrześniu 2009 roku nakładem wytwórni Candlelight Records jako czwarta płyta studyjna zespołu. Zawiera 8 utworów, w tym Down With the Sun, The Harrowing Years czy trwający prawie dziewięć minut Lay of the Autumn. Gościnnie na albumie wystąpili Jules Näveri z Profane Omen jako wokalista oraz Aleksi Munter ze Swallow the Sun jako klawiszowiec. Niemiecki magazyn internetowy Metal 1 wybrał płytę albumem miesiąca września 2009.
W czasie wydania Insomnium tworzyli Niilo Sevänen (gitara basowa, wokal), Ville Friman i Ville Vänni (gitary), Markus Vanhala (gitara) oraz Markus Hirvonen (perkusja).
