Megadeth to amerykańska grupa thrashmetalowa założona w 1983 roku przez Dave'a Mustaine'a po jego odejściu z Metalliki. Wraz z Metallicą, Slayerem i Anthraxem tworzy tzw. „wielką czwórkę” amerykańskiego thrash metalu – cztery zespoły odpowiedzialne za rozwój i popularyzację tego gatunku.
Kompilacja Greatest Hits: Back to the Start ukazała się 28 czerwca 2005 roku nakładem wytwórni Capitol Records i zawiera 17 utworów z wcześniejszych albumów studyjnych grupy. Zbiór przynosi kluczowe kompozycje thrashmetalowej ery, w tym Holy Wars… The Punishment Due, Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells i Hangar 18. Tytuł albumu nawiązuje do tekstu utworu Rust in Peace... Polaris z płyty Rust in Peace.
W czasie wydania skład Megadeth tworzyli Dave Mustaine, James MacDonough (gitara basowa, wokal), Glen Drover (gitara elektryczna, wokal) i Shawn Drover (perkusja).
