Pestilence to holenderski death metalowy zespół założony w 1986 roku w Enschede, należący do pionierów gatunku w Holandii. Charakteryzuje się eksperymentalnym podejściem, włączając do swojej twórczości elementy jazz fusion i progresywne brzmienia.
Spheres ukazał się w 1993 roku jako czwarty album studyjny grupy i jednocześnie ostatni przed czternastoletnią przerwą (1994–2008). Na tym albumie Pestilence zdecydowanie przesunęła granice gatunku – do technicznego death metalu dodała gitarowe syntezatory i jazzowe wpływy. Wytwórnia Hammerheart Records przedstawia teraz ten kluczowy album na podwójnym CD rozszerzonym o łącznie 33 nagrania, w tym wersje demo, koncertowe i próbne takich utworów jak Mind Reflections, Multiple Beings czy Demise of Time.
W czasie wydania albumu skład tworzyli Patrick Mameli, Martin van Drunen, Patrick Uterwijk, Marco Foddis i Jeroen Paul Thesseling.
