Album ukazał się w październiku 2007 roku nakładem wytwórni Rounder, wyprodukowany przez T-Bone'a Burnetta, który uczestniczył również w doborze repertuaru. Na płycie znalazło się 13 utworów, wśród nich covery piosenek Toma Waitsa, Townesa Van Zandta, Gene'a Clarka i innych, a także autorski utwór Please Read the Letter. Raising Sand zdobyło w 2009 roku pięć nagród Grammy, w tym najbardziej prestiżową — Album Roku, oraz osiągnęło status platynowej płyty w Wielkiej Brytanii i USA.
