Album Maxinquaye ukazał się w lutym 1995 roku nakładem wytwórni Island Records jako debiut Tricky'ego po odejściu z grupy Massive Attack. Nagrany w jego domowym studiu w Londynie, album został nazwany na cześć jego matki Maxine Quaye.
