At the Gates to szwedzka grupa melodic death metalowa z Göteborga, która około 1990 roku położyła podwaliny pod göteborgski styl death metalu. Po pierwotnym rozpadzie w 1996 roku i wznowieniu działalności w 2007 zespół kontynuuje wydawanie nowych albumów.
The Nightmare of Being, wydany na 2CD w 2021 roku przez wytwórnię Century Media, to siódmy album studyjny grupy. Album zachowuje korzenie göteborgskiego metalu, jednocześnie eksplorując szerszy zakres stylów, a teksty czerpią między innymi z dzieł filozofów horroru Thomasa Ligettiego i Eugene'a Thackera. Pierwszy dysk zawiera dziesięć studyjnych utworów, w tym tytułowy The Nightmare of Being czy sześciominutowy The Fall Into Time. Drugi dysk przynosi dziewięć nagrań koncertowych z występów na festiwalu Roadburn, w Sztokholmie i San Francisco, między innymi Daggers of Black Haze, Death and the Labyrinth oraz The Night Eternal.
Na albumie jako gitarzysta wystąpił Jonas Stålhammar.
