Big Country to szkocki zespół rockowy założony w 1981 roku w Dunfermline. Ich brzmienie, inspirowane szkocką muzyką folkową i marszową, charakteryzuje się specyficznym brzmieniem gitary, przywodzącym na myśl dźwięk dud i skrzypiec. Zyskali szerszą rozpoznawalność jako przedstawiciele new wave i rocka alternatywnego lat osiemdziesiątych.
Album Without the Aid of a Safety Net ukazał się w 1994 roku jako pierwszy album koncertowy zespołu i uwiecznia ich występ w Barrowland Ballroom w Glasgow z 29 grudnia 1993 roku. Potrójny winyl zawiera utwory z ówczesnego albumu studyjnego The Buffalo Skinners, w tym Alone i Ships, obok sprawdzonych hitów z wcześniejszego okresu, takich jak In a Big Country, Look Away czy Fields of Fire. Znajdują się tu także covery Rockin' in the Free World i Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).
