Aktywny w latach 1984–1993 i ponownie 2001–2008, wywarł ogromny wpływ na rozwój black, death i doom metalu w latach osiemdziesiątych i dziewięćdziesiątych. We wczesnej fazie twórczości inspirowali się Venom, Black Sabbath czy Judas Priest, a także gotyckimi zespołami rockowymi jak Bauhaus czy Siouxsie & the Banshees.
Danse Macabre to obszerna kompilacja wydana w 2022 roku nakładem wytwórni Noise, która dokumentuje wczesny okres twórczości zespołu. Box set zawiera łącznie 46 utworów na pięciu płytach — pierwsze trzy albumy studyjne i pierwsze EP uzupełnione o bonusy oraz piąty krążek z rzadkimi nagraniami z prób.
