Death to amerykański zespół deathmetalowy założony w 1983 roku, uważany za pioniera gatunku i jedną z najbardziej wpływowych grup death metalowych w historii. Pod kierunkiem Chucka Schuldinera, nazywanego „ojcem death metalu”, zespół przeszedł od surowego death metalu wczesnych lat do technicznie wymagającego progressive death metalu.
Album The Sound of Perseverance został wydany 31 sierpnia 1998 roku przez wytwórnię Nuclear Blast jako siódmy i ostatni studyjny album zespołu. To podwójne CD zawierające 19 utworów, obejmujące zarówno finalne wersje kompozycji, jak i wersje demo z lat 1997–1998. Uważany jest za jedno z najważniejszych dokonań Death, a krytycy zaliczają go do największych albumów heavy metalowych wszech czasów. Wśród wyróżniających się utworów znajdują się Scavenger of Human Sorrow, Spirit Crusher czy instrumentalny Voice of the Soul.
Na albumie udział wzięli Chuck Schuldiner (wokal, gitara), Shannon Hamm (gitara), Scott Clendenin (gitara basowa) i Richard Christy (perkusja). Po śmierci Schuldinera w 2001 roku zespół rozwiązał się.
