Szkocko-amerykańska grupa rockowa Garbage powstała w 1994 roku w Madisonie i sprzedała na całym świecie ponad 16 milionów płyt. Zespół tworzą szkocka wokalistka Shirley Manson oraz amerykańscy muzycy Duke Erikson, Steve Marker i Butch Vig, znany producent albumów zespołów Nirvana i Smashing Pumpkins.
Album beautifulgarbage ukazał się 1 października 2001 roku nakładem wytwórni Mushroom Records i oznaczał częściowe odejście od brzmienia, które grupa prezentowała na pierwszych dwóch płytach. Płyta powstawała przez ponad rok, w trakcie którego wokalistka, jako jedna z pierwszych w branży muzycznej, prowadziła internetowy blog dokumentujący proces jego powstawania. Album łączy rock z elektroniką, hip-hopem, new wave i wpływami girl groups, oferuje silniejsze melodie i bardziej bezpośrednie teksty. To zremasterowane wydanie na 3 CD zawiera łącznie 48 utworów, w tym utwory bonusowe takie jak Candy Says, Wild Horses (live) czy Pride (In the Name of Love) (live). Remaster wykonali Billy Bush i Butch Vig.
Przy albumie pracowali Duke Erikson (gitara basowa, gitara, keyboard), Steve Marker (gitara), Butch Vig (perkusja) oraz Shirley Manson (wokal).
