Iron Maiden to brytyjska grupa heavymetalowa założona w 1975 roku, pionierzy nowej fali brytyjskiego heavy metalu (NWOBHM), zaliczani do najważniejszych i najbardziej wpływowych zespołów gatunku. Ich muzyka ukształtowała heavy metal lat 80. i zainspirowała kolejne pokolenia grup metalowych wszystkich podgatunków.
Live After Death to pierwszy album koncertowy zespołu, wydany w październiku 1985 roku przez wytwórnię Parlophone. To zremasterowane wznowienie na dwóch płytach CD dokumentuje występy z trasy World Slavery Tour, promującej studyjny album Powerslave. Pierwszych dwanaście utworów oraz otwierający album Churchill's Speech zostały nagrane w Long Beach Arena w Kalifornii (14–17 marca 1985), pozostałych pięć utworów — w londyńskim Hammersmith Odeon (październik 1984). Album zawiera łącznie 18 utworów, w tym takie hity jak Aces High, The Trooper, 2 Minutes to Midnight oraz epicki Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Wielu słuchaczy uważa Live After Death za jeden z najlepszych heavymetalowych albumów koncertowych w historii.
W momencie wydania skład zespołu tworzyli czterej muzycy: Steve Harris (gitara basowa, wokal wspierający, keyboard), Bruce Dickinson (wokal prowadzący), Adrian Smith (gitara, wokal wspierający, keyboard) i Nicko McBrain (perkusja i instrumenty perkusyjne).
