Jethro Tull to brytyjski zespół rockowy, który ukształtował się w 1967 roku. Jego wiodącą postacią jest Ian Anderson, wokalista, multiinstrumentalista i kompozytor, którego charakterystyczna gra na flecie poprzecznym i chropawy wokal są niezamienne. Muzyka zespołu łączy elementy rocka progresywnego, folk rocka i hard rocku z wpływami muzyki klasycznej i tradycyjnej celtyckiej. Dzięki płycie Stand Up w 1969 roku dotarli na szczyt brytyjskiej listy przebojów; nieśmiertelną sławę przyniosło im przede wszystkim album Aqualung z 1971 roku.
Bursting Out to pierwszy album koncertowy zespołu, wydany przez wytwórnię Chrysalis w 1978 roku jako podwójny album. Nagranie powstało podczas europejskiej trasy Heavy Horses w maju i czerwcu 1978 roku i dokumentuje Jethro Tull u szczytu ich folk-rockowej ery. Album zawiera łącznie 18 utworów, w tym klasyki takie jak Aqualung, Locomotive Breath i dwunastominutowe Thick as a Brick. Nie brakuje też improwizacji fletowej łączącej tradycyjny God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen z Bourée Bacha.
