Saxon to brytyjska heavymetalowa grupa założona w 1976 roku w Barnsley w hrabstwie Yorkshire. Zespół należał do czołowych przedstawicieli nowej fali brytyjskiego heavy metalu (NWOBHM) i na początku lat 80. osiągnął sukces nie tylko w Europie, ale także w Japonii.
Debiutancki album studyjny Saxon ukazał się w 1979 roku nakładem wytwórni Union Square Music. Ta rozszerzona reedycja na CD w książkowym digipacku zawiera 22 utwory, w tym oryginalny album uzupełniony o wersje demo utworów, nagrania z sesji dla BBC Radio 1 oraz zapisy koncertowe. Wśród kluczowych utworów znalazły się Frozen Rainbow, Backs to the Wall, Stallions of the Highway czy Judgement Day.
W czasie wydania albumu w zespole działali Biff Byford (wokal), Pete Gill (perkusja), Steve Dawson (gitara basowa), Graham Oliver (gitara) i Paul Quinn (gitara elektryczna).
