Saxon to brytyjski zespół heavy metalowy założony w Barnsley w 1975 roku, jeden z przedstawicieli tzw. nowej fali brytyjskiego heavy metalu (NWOBHM). W latach 80. osiągnęli sukcesy w Wielkiej Brytanii, Europie i Japonii.
Kompilacja Unplugged and Strung Up ukazała się w 2013 roku nakładem wytwórni Militia Guard Music jako podwójne CD w digipaku i zawiera łącznie 27 utworów. Pierwszy dysk oferuje orkiestrowe wersje klasyków takich jak Crusader, The Eagle Has Landed czy Red Star Falling, ponownie nagrane wersje Forever Free i Just Let Me Rock oraz akustyczne aranżacje utworów Frozen Rainbow czy Coming Home. Drugi dysk zawiera nagrania koncertowe hitów Heavy Metal Thunder, Princess of the Night czy Wheels of Steel. To wyjątkowa okazja, by usłyszeć klasyczne utwory Saxon w nowych aranżacjach.
W czasie wydania albumu skład Saxon tworzyli Biff Byford (wokal), Paul Quinn i Doug Scarratt (gitary) oraz Nibbs Carter (gitara basowa).
