The Waterboys to brytyjski zespół folk rockowy i celtycki założony w 1983 roku przez szkockiego muzyka Mike'a Scotta. Jego twórczość wyróżnia się literackimi nawiązaniami i często porusza tematy duchowości, co przyniosło zespołowi uznanie zarówno krytyki rockowej, jak i folkowej.
Album A Rock in the Weary Land ukazał się w 2000 roku nakładem wytwórni BMG International i Razor & Tie jako siódmy album studyjny zespołu. Po siedmioletniej przerwie kontynuuje twardszy rockowy styl poprzedniej płyty Dream Harder (1993). Czternaście utworów obejmuje dłuższe kompozycje takie jak ośmiominutowa My Love Is My Rock in the Weary Land, ale także krótsze, jak dwuipółminutowa My Lord, What a Morning.
