The Yes Album z 1971 roku wydany przez wytwórnię Atlantic oznaczał przełomowy moment w karierze zespołu — po dwóch komercyjnych porażkach uratował Yes przed zerwaniem kontraktu i stał się ich pierwszym wielkim sukcesem (4. miejsce w Wielkiej Brytanii, 40. miejsce w USA, platynowa płyta). To pierwszy album zespołu, na którym wszystkie 60 nagrań składa się wyłącznie z własnych kompozycji, oraz pierwszy z udziałem wirtuoza gitary Steve'a Howe'a. Zawiera rozbudowane utwory, takie jak Yours Is No Disgrace, Starship Trooper czy akustyczny Clap, które zdefiniowały brzmienie progresywnego rocka lat 70.
