Richard Strauss (1864–1949) był niemieckim kompozytorem i dyrygentem późnego romantyzmu, znanym z symfonicznych poematów, oper i bogatej twórczości pieśniarskiej. Był jednym z najwybitniejszych dyrygentów swojej epoki, kierował Bawarską Operą Państwową oraz Berlińską Operą Państwową.
