Dream Theater to amerykański zespół progresywnego metalu założony w 1985 roku w Bostonie. Należy do najważniejszych i najbardziej wpływowych grup gatunku, łączących elementy progressive metalu, heavy metalu i progressive rocku lat 70.
Kompilacja The Majesty Demos 1985–1986 ukazała się w 2003 roku nakładem wytwórni Sony Music. Zawiera 23 nagrania z wczesnych lat zespołu, gdy działał jeszcze pod oryginalną nazwą Majesty — są to dema nagrane na czterościeżkowym analogu Tascam 244 i dystrybuowane pierwotnie w nakładzie zaledwie 1000 kaset. Na utworze YYZ zespół coveruje Rush, wśród utworów znajdują się również serie humorystycznych miniatur, takie jak Anti-Procrastination Song czy Mike Thinks He's Dee Dee Ramone Introducing a Song Song. Nie brakuje też instrumentalnych kompozycji Your Majesty i A Vision. CD wydano w digipaku.
W nagraniu albumu udział wzięli Mike Portnoy, John Myung, John Petrucci, James LaBrie, Jordan Rudess i Steve Stone.
