Queen to brytyjski zespół rockowy założony w 1970 roku w Londynie, którego twórczość obejmuje gatunki od rocka progresywnego i hard rocka po pop rock i funk. Muzykę zespołu charakteryzuje warstwowe brzmienie, harmonie wokalne i bogata różnorodność gatunkowa.
Album Queen II ukazał się w marcu 1974 roku nakładem wytwórni EMI i został nagrany w londyńskich studiach Trident i Langham 1 w sierpniu 1973 roku z producentem Royem Thomasem Bakerem. Oryginalne LP miało zamiast tradycyjnych stron A i B oznaczenia „biała strona” i „czarna strona” – biała część zawiera bardziej emocjonalne, melodyczne utwory, czarna część wyłącznie kompozycje fantazyjne z mroczniejszą atmosferą. To wydanie na czterech CD przynosi oryginalny album w remiksie z 2026 roku, nagrania sesyjne i wersje alternatywne, instrumentalne podkłady oraz rzadkie nagrania koncertowe z BBC i Golders Green Hippodrome (wrzesień 1973), w tym utwory Ogre Battle, Seven Seas of Rhye i The March of the Black Queen.
W czasie nagrywania zespół tworzyli Freddie Mercury (wokal), Brian May (gitara, wokale), Roger Taylor (perkusja, wokale) i John Deacon (gitara basowa).
