Kapelę w 1980 roku założyli pozostali członkowie legendarnych Joy Division po śmierci wokalisty Iana Curtisa — Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook i Stephen Morris, wkrótce dołączyła do nich keyboardzistka Gillian Gilbert. Ich fuzja post-punkowego brzmienia z elektroniczną muzyką taneczną uczyniła ich jednym z najbardziej wpływowych zespołów lat 80.
Album koncertowy Education Entertainment Recreation ukazał się w 2021 roku nakładem wytwórni Warner Music UK i rejestruje jedyny brytyjski koncert zespołu w 2018 roku, który odbył się w londyńskim Alexandra Palace. Potrójny krążek zawiera 43 utwory, w tym klasyki takie jak Blue Monday, Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith czy Regret, a także rzadkie kompozycje z dorobku Joy Division — Love Will Tear Us Apart, Atmosphere, Decades. Setlistę otwiera wagnerowski wstęp orkiestrowy Das Rheingold: Vorspiel.
W składzie wystąpili Bernard Sumner (wokal, gitara, syntezatory), Stephen Morris (perkusja, syntezatory), Phil Cunningham (elektroniczna perkusja, gitara, syntezatory) oraz Tom Chapman (gitara basowa, syntezatory).
